About Schagrin Ceramics

In the Spring of 2015, I decided to go back to school, literally and figuratively!
Back to Northeast Senior High School in Fort Lauderdale where I graduated in 1967. Only this time, it was for the fun of it!

NEHS had an adult education program and one of the non-academic classes being offered was ceramics — all levels from beginners to advanced! Having no idea what to anticipate, the instructor Wayne Pelke, gave a quick overview of what to expect during the next eight weeks and I haven’t looked back for a second. I instantly fell in love with hand building with clay. The class provided guidance and the instructor was there to encourage my creativity.

Fast forward to 2020 and the pandemic. I was able to set up a home studio in our garage and continued to work with hand building different objects d‘art. The isolation provided me the opportunity to be creative and try different ideas. With the popularity of ZOOM, I enrolled in a number of virtual art classes offered, in NYC, Chicago, Michigan, Canada, LA, and San Francisco. The variety of instructors introduced me to a wide range of new techniques.

Being creative with hand building has provided me with a new perspective of designing objects outside the box and challenged my abilities. My hope is that you will enjoy my work as much as I have enjoyed creating these various pieces.
